These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CivicAlert NG (the "Platform," "we," "us," or "our"), a community crime-reporting and case-tracking service intended for use within Nigeria. By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
By creating an account, submitting a report, or otherwise using CivicAlert NG, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using the Platform on behalf of an organization (for example, as a Police Admin or Investigator), you confirm that you are authorized to accept these Terms on that organization's behalf.
CivicAlert NG allows members of the public to report suspected criminal activity, track the status of submitted reports using a unique report number, and — for authorized law enforcement personnel — to review, triage, and update the status of reports. The Platform is a reporting and case-tracking tool. It does not replace official police stations, emergency lines, or statutory reporting obligations.
When you submit a report, you agree to:
The Platform allows reports to be submitted anonymously. If you choose to report anonymously, we will not knowingly request or store information that directly identifies you as the reporter, beyond what is technically necessary to operate the service (such as basic request logs kept for security purposes). Anonymous reporting is intended to encourage reporting of crime while reducing the risk of exposing reporters to retaliation; however, no online system can guarantee absolute anonymity, and you should exercise judgment when reporting information that could put you at risk.
You agree not to:
Knowingly submitting a false report of a crime is a serious matter and may constitute an offense under Nigerian law, including but not limited to laws addressing false information given to public officials or authorities. CivicAlert NG reserves the right to flag, suspend, or refer suspected false or malicious reports to the relevant authorities, and to suspend or terminate the account of any user found to be abusing the reporting system.
Users granted Investigator, Police Admin, or Super Admin roles are expected to access report data only for legitimate case-handling purposes, to handle sensitive information (including reporter identity and evidence) with appropriate confidentiality, and to update case statuses accurately and in good faith. Misuse of elevated access, including unauthorized disclosure of reporter information, may result in immediate suspension of access and referral to appropriate oversight bodies.
CivicAlert NG is not a substitute for emergency services. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact the Nigeria Police Force emergency line, your local police station, or another appropriate emergency service directly rather than relying solely on this Platform, as reports submitted here may not be reviewed in real time.
The CivicAlert NG name, logo, interface design, and underlying software are the property of CivicAlert NG or its licensors. You retain ownership of the content and evidence you submit, but you grant CivicAlert NG a limited license to store, process, and share that content with relevant law enforcement personnel as necessary to act on your report.
The Platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that every report will be reviewed within any particular timeframe, that any report will result in a specific investigative or legal outcome, or that the Platform will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CivicAlert NG and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Platform, including but not limited to any harm resulting from delayed report review, third-party actions, or reliance on information provided through the Platform.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, misused the reporting system, or posed a risk to other users or the integrity of the Platform.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nigeria.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
If you have questions about these Terms, please reach out through the contact details provided on the Platform, or via your institutional administrator if you are a Police Admin, Investigator, or Super Admin user.
